This is a summary document prepared as part of the First Regional Summit of Methane 2024, which explains why methane is key to the climate crisis, the scale of the problem in the oil and gas sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, and the regional commitments being developed to address it. It outlines the main political, economic, and technological challenges hindering emissions reductions and highlights available solutions: new monitoring and mitigation technologies, emerging regulatory frameworks, and financing mechanisms. It also showcases OEMLAC’s progress, specific case studies of companies in the region, and a roadmap toward 2030 with recommendations and a call to action for governments, the private sector, and international organizations.
