Who We Are?
The Latin America and the Caribbean Methane Emissions Observatory
(OEMLAC) is an initiative of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE).
We provide support to countries in the region in creating and strengthening the conditions necessary to manage their methane emissions in the energy sector.
Through technical advice, training, data collection, and coordination among governments, businesses, and international organizations, we contribute to the transition toward low-emission development.
What should we do?
Knowledge Generation and Dissemination
We compile data on methane emissions management in the region and generate strategic information to support decision-making.
We make scientific and technical knowledge about methane—generated at the international, regional, and local levels—available to the public.
Capacity Building
We organize and manage spaces for training, exchange, co-creation, outreach, and multi-stakeholder technical dialogue in the region.
We provide access to resources, publications, and tools for mitigating methane emissions.
Cooperation and Funding
We form strategic partnerships with international, regional, and local organizations, companies, institutions, and initiatives.
We support the development and implementation of national roadmaps to catalyze climate action related to methane in the energy sector.
Methodological Refinement
We promote efforts to close gaps in the preparation and reporting of national greenhouse gas inventories, with an emphasis on methane.
We support governments in adopting best methodological practices for estimating, measuring, and reporting their methane emissions.
