Colombia’s Methane Emissions Mitigation Roadmap is the result of the technical work carried out by OEMLAC and Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) since 2025. The document (spanish) sets out a course of action to improve methane management in the hydrocarbons and coal-mining sectors, recognising that these sectors have different levels of available information, regulatory development and technical capacity.
The roadmap is based on a diagnosis of gaps in inventory quality, direct measurement, data reporting and institutional coordination. It proposes three main areas of work: strengthening inventories and monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems; implementing methane mitigation measures; and creating enabling conditions related to regulation, technical capacity, coordination and financing. It also defines specific actions, expected outputs, responsible institutions, monitoring indicators and implementation timelines for 2027-2032.
