UNEP’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) report, “An Eye on Methane 2025: From Measurement to Momentum,” shows how a new generation of open, accurate, and actionable data is accelerating the reduction of methane emissions, which account for about one-third of global warming. It highlights progress made by initiatives such as the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0, the MARS satellite alert system, scientific methane studies, and the Steel Methane Program, explaining how the integration of satellite measurements, industry reports, and field campaigns enables governments and companies to identify major emission sources, design more effective regulations, and scale up mitigation efforts in sectors such as oil and gas, coal, waste, and steel.
