The 30th session of the Conference of the Parties has begun in the city of Belém do Pará, Brazil, continuing the discussions on how to increase climate ambition to ensure compliance with the Paris Agreement. Regarding the mitigation of methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, the “Declaration on Drastically Reducing Methane Emissions in the Global Fossil Fuel Sector” has been published as a call to unite efforts among countries, organizations, and the private sector to reduce methane emissions, protect health and livelihoods, and deliver lasting climate and economic benefits for all.
This declaration is spearheaded by seven countries worldwide—including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, Norway, and the United Kingdom—and is supported by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the European Commission, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE).
